One monomer can change the whole material

A monomer is a small molecule that can take part in forming a polymer.

But “small” is not enough to describe its role. The reactive groups it carries, the flexibility of its structure, and the way it combines with other monomers can all influence the properties of the final polymer.

In an adhesive formulation, one component may contribute flexibility, another may adjust polarity, and another may provide a site for reaction or network formation.

Polymerization connects these smaller molecules into new chain structures. To understand a formulation, we therefore need to ask not only “what was added?” but also “what structure will these components create after reaction?”

Functional OCA design starts from the same principle. Transparency, adhesion, curing, and durability are not isolated features; they emerge together from molecular structure.
