VisCure Inc., an advanced materials startup spun off from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University and led by CEO Seokju Lee, will participate in CES 2026 to showcase its visible-light-curable optically clear adhesive (OCA) technology for next-generation displays.
VisCure’s core technology is its UV-blocking optically clear adhesive (UV-blocking OCA), which integrates ultraviolet-blocking functionality into the adhesive used to bond internal display layers. Unlike conventional curing methods that rely on high-energy ultraviolet (UV) light or heat, VisCure employs a proprietary technology that cures the adhesive using safe and energy-efficient visible light. Through this approach, the company has achieved commercialization-level full curing of UV-blocking adhesives.
This adhesive delivers over 99% UV-blocking performance with a single adhesive layer, eliminating the need for a separate UV-blocking coating process. By separating the wavelength band of the visible light used for curing from that of the ultraviolet light being blocked, the structure ensures that the UV-blocking components do not interfere with the curing process. As a result, display manufacturers can simplify their processes, reduce panel thickness, lower manufacturing costs, and adopt a more eco-friendly production process that cuts energy consumption by more than 80% compared with conventional methods.
VisCure is a lab-based startup founded on research outcomes from the laboratory of Professor Minsang Kwon (CTO) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University. The company holds core source patents and has been recognized for its technological excellence through awards such as the Grand Prize at the Samsung Display Industry–Academia Collaboration Paper Competition and the Top Prize in the Research League of Challenge! K-Startup 2025. It is currently working toward commercialization through technology validation projects with domestic and international companies, including LG Display and Chokwang Paint.
