Adhesion is not simply the same as feeling sticky.
For an adhesive to bond to a surface, it first needs to wet that surface sufficiently. Interactions then develop at the interface, and the material must be able to withstand the applied force.
This is where viscoelasticity becomes important. If the adhesive flows too easily, it may not maintain its shape. If it is too rigid, it may not follow microscopic irregularities on the surface.
OCA makes this balance more demanding. The material has to maintain optical clarity while contacting very different surfaces, including glass, films, metals, and polymer layers.
Behind the simple phrase “it sticks well” are several separate questions about wetting, interfaces, and viscoelasticity.
